Used wind- and watertight containers start around $919 for a 10ft, $1,095 for a 20ft, $1,169 for a 40ft and $1,955 for a 40ft high cube. Cargo-worthy units — certified for road and sea transport — start around $2,400.

What does 'wind and watertight' actually mean?

The container is sealed against weather: no daylight through walls or roof, intact door gaskets, working cam locks and a sound floor. It will keep contents dry and secure, but it is not certified for ocean shipping.

What's the difference between wind & watertight and cargo-worthy?

Accepted Answer

Cargo-worthy is a higher, surveyed grade — the container passes structural inspection and is eligible for a CSC plate, so it can legally be shipped by road or sea. Wind and watertight is a storage grade. If you're only storing on site, wind and watertight saves money.

How old are used containers?

Most used units coming out of service have 8–12 years of ocean life. Steel of this age is still structurally sound; what changes is cosmetics — dents, patch repairs, surface rust and mismatched paint.

Will a used container be rusty?

Accepted Answer

Expect surface rust and touch-up paint. Corten weathering steel forms a protective oxide layer rather than rusting through. Anything with perforation, soft floors or failed seals is repaired or rejected before we list it.

Can I see the exact container before I buy?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every used unit is listed against its own container number with condition photos. Ask and we'll send fresh photos of the specific box allocated to your order before it ships.

Do used containers come with a warranty?

Accepted Answer

Used units are sold graded and inspected, and we guarantee the grading: if a container arrives that is not wind- and watertight as sold, we repair or replace it. Cosmetic wear is expected and priced in.

Is a used container a good base for a conversion?

Accepted Answer

For workshops, storage sheds and rough-use builds, yes — and it saves over $1,000 per box. For homes, offices and anything customer-facing, one-trip units are worth the upgrade because the panels are straight and the paint is new.
