Is it cheaper to buy or rent a storage container?

If you need the container for more than roughly 12 to 18 months, buying is almost always cheaper — monthly rental adds up to the purchase price surprisingly fast, and a purchased unit keeps resale value you can recover later.

A 10ft holds roughly the contents of a one-bedroom apartment or a full set of tools. A 20ft (160 sq ft) suits most homes, jobsites and small businesses. A 40ft (320 sq ft) is for bulk inventory, pallets, equipment and long items.

It depends on your city or county and how long the container stays. Many jurisdictions allow temporary jobsite or residential storage without a permit; permanent placement often needs one. We supply drawings and specs for permit submissions, and Outback refunds deposits if a permit is denied.

A level surface with support under the four corner castings — compacted gravel, concrete piers, railroad ties or a slab all work. Level ground keeps the doors swinging true and stops water pooling under the unit.
